NEXT Friday Breakfast! April 7, 2006, 7:30 am, at the Village Deli
Sunday is the DWC fundraiser and friend-raiser at the Players Pub on South Walnut. There is a flyer on the DWC website that you could actually print out and give to a friend.
The list of musicians who are willing to make guest appearances is astonishing - some of our community's best! Carrie Newcomer does only two benefit concerts a year and we are so fortunate to have her support electing Democratic Women!
The Players Pub has been incredible in hosting our event, and their staff is volunteering their time and tips so that we can really make our fundraiser even more of a success. As the planning committee has met there several times, we can attest to the great food they serve. Burgers (beef, veggie), pastas, Zesty Shrimp, Steaks (from the Butchers Block), appetizers, and wonderful desserts will be available.
Sponsors for the fundraiser are Lu and Jim Cregar, Susan and Doug Davis, Jean Sebeok and Mark Day, Mayor Mark Kruzan, Katherine and James Lazerwitz, Regina and Don Moore, Rose Mahern and Arnold Shuster, Vi Simpson, Sophia and Greg Travis, Charlotte and Paul Zietlow, Karen Green Stone and Rob Stone. They have joined together to give this fundraising effort an incredible boost.
Performers are Rachel Caswell, Janice Jaffee and Monika Herzig - local well known women with incredible voices. Lisa Loew is a young voice major at Indiana University who is eager to make a difference with her support of the caucus. If you haven't heard Lois Sabo-Skelton make her violin tear at your heartstrings, you have missed an incredible experience. If you've never heard city councilmen Chris Gaal and Andy Ruff sing and play together, you've again, missed a local musical treat. We end with Hambone and Doc (yes, one of our local pediatricians!)… locals who are anxious to entertain those supporters of Democratic women.
It's one thing to write a check for $10 or $20 to a candidate - a small, but welcome donation. But when we can use our $10 and $20 donations to join with others who share our own commitment to electing Democratic women, we can offer hundreds of dollars to those progressive women candidates. We CAN make a difference in a campaign. Print a flyer, bring a friend!

Speaking of coming to a DWC event, the WomenSpeak Readers Theater will be presenting their final performance at the Monroe County Public Library on Tuesday, March 28th at 7:00 pm. This performance masterminded by Susan Sandberg with Lois-Sabo Skelton and Sarah Sandberg is a multi-media look at the struggle for women's rights and was originally performed at the Women's Equality Day Dinner in August of 2005. It was also performed at the Democratic gathering at French Lick and the National Democratic Women's Federation meeting last summer, and most recently as a part of Arts Week. You'll want to see this last live performance of the group. It's been a wonderful experience to hear the voices of some of the most influential women in women's history read by our own members. Don't miss this performance. Bring your daughters and their friends…!

DWCaucus member Kate Cruikshank, political papers specialist at the Lilly Library, curated the exhibition entitled A Legacy of Honor: An Exhibition from the Congressional Papers of Lee H. Hamilton" which runs through April 1.
As a tribute to the extraordinary public service of Representative Lee Hamilton, this exhibition lays out the major dimensions of Lee Hamilton's congressional career and provides a glimpse into the contents of his congressional papers. Occupying 21 displays in the Lilly Library, the exhibition is divided into three areas of emphasis: Hamilton's relationships with and service to his ninth-district constituents; his ever-increasing role in foreign policy and foreign affairs; and a focus on the workings of Congress and Hamilton's lifelong commitment to making it the institution the founding fathers intended. Items on display in the exhibition come from the Lee H. Hamilton Congressional Papers, richly supplemented by photographs from Lee and Nancy Hamilton's private collection, and by campaign memorabilia generously loaned by Nancy Hamilton, Wayne Vance, and Carolyn Eve. "A Legacy of Honors" runs from January 17-April 1. The exhibition is free and open to the public. The Lilly Library's hours are Monday-Friday 9 a.m.-6 p.m. and Saturday 9 am - 1 pm.

VOTER IDENTIFICATION and GOTV TRAINING
Please try to participate in the Democratic Party's canvassing and phone banking on Mondays before the primary. Gather at 5:30, get your assignment and partner (or bring a friend to go with you) and head out to a neighborhood to check to identify voters who are favorable to Democrats. Using the information gathered in the primary season will help identify those we will need to make sure vote in the fall election. The friendly folks at the HQ (110 South Washington - the old SeraTec building) will make sure you understand the new laws regarding voters needing an ID, and help you feel comfortable with the information gathering. Our women candidates thank you!
