Monday Morning News Nov. 3, 2014

The word of the week is VOTE. You should vote, and you should make sure every Democrat you know votes! Early voting is still an option at 401 W. 7th St. Monday from 8:30 am to 12:00 noon, and Tuesday is Election Day, with polls open 6 am to 6 pm. Give a friend a ride, help at party headquarters with GOTV phone calls or snacks for volunteers, hand out candidate literature at the polling sites - do all you can to get our Dems, especially our endorsed candidates, elected!

We will have a debriefing at our monthly breakfast meeting Friday! Check out more announcements and info below.

DWC Monthly Breakfast Meeting Friday
Are you interested to hear from the candidates after the election? We are! Candidates will discuss what they learned, challenges, and successes. And we will definitely be celebrating some victories!

On Friday we will also welcome Jacqui Bauer, the Sustainability Coordinator for the City of Bloomington, who will tell us about the Georgetown Energy Challenge the City and County are participating in. See you at the Village Deli starting at 7:30 am on Friday!

Final GOTV Push
The Monroe County Democratic Party needs you to help get out the vote! Sick of a statehouse that ignores the needs of working families and focuses on taking away rights? Tired of having nobody actually represent your view in Congress? Fed up with the negative campaigning of local Republican candidates? Then sign up for a shift of get out the vote (GOTV) phone calls! Bring your phone, and they'll provide food, call lists and spirit.  Sign up for a shift at:

or by writing [email protected].  Or even just showing up in-person at 335 S. College. Let's finish this race strong!

Move to Amend Event Sunday

Jeffrey Clements,  author of Corporations Are Not People,  will visit Bloomington on Sunday,  November 9,  3 p.m., at Barnes and Noble.  The occasion,  sponsored by MoveToAmend.org/in-bloomington,  is the new edition of his book.  Clements was Assistant Attorney General of Massachusetts,  filed an amicus brief in Citizens United v. Federal Election Commission,  and is Chair of the Board of Free Speech for People.  Come, and bring a friend!

Action Item: Help Rape Survivors Prevent Pregnancy

From NARAL Pro-Choice America:

Imagine being raped, going to the emergency room, and being told there’s nothing they can do to make sure you don’t get pregnant – even though there’s a type of birth control that can actually prevent pregnancy. This actually still happens in emergency rooms across the country. Rape survivors aren't getting the medical care and justice they deserve because of anti-choice policies some hospitals have in place that block access to this important medication.

Experiencing something as violent as rape is traumatic enough. No woman should be denied a chance to prevent pregnancy because of someone else’s anti-choice beliefs – yet, this happens every day in emergency rooms across the country.

There’s a bill in Congress that would require hospital emergency rooms to offer EC to rape survivors. With anti-choice lawmakers dominating the U.S. House of Representatives, our first step is getting it moving in the Senate. Help us send a powerful message to Congress that pregnancy prevention for rape survivors should be a priority. Send your message to your senators now.
